A. Rick Baker is one of the most influential individuals in special effects, he helped pave the way for the visual artists of today and of the future.

B. Baker is responsible for many influential movies dating back to the 1970’s

1. Some of the influential movies are Star Wars, and The Exorcist.

2. Because of movies like these, Rick Baker was able to make his presence known throughout the movie industry and won the first Academy Award for makeup.

II. Body

A. Early years

1. Before Rick Baker ever worked on a movie, he was doing makeup art on himself and his friends in high school.

2. In High School, he was experimenting with old age make up to make a 14 year old freshman look like his grandfather.

3. His practice and love for the art form at an early age helped make him one of the best makeup artist in the business

B. First Jobs in the Business

1. His first job as a professional was as an assistant to Dick Smith on the Exorcist.

2. This would lead to more jobs until he would work on “An American Werewolf in London”. He would then win the Academy Award for makeup.

3. Due to his hard work and persistence, he was able to be recognized in his field of work.

C. Current Work

1. Recently, Rick Baker has won the Jack Pierce lifetime Achievement Award in October of 2009. He has also been acknowledged for 6 Acadamy Awards.

2. He has recently worked on “The Wolfman” that was released in 2010. And is hoping for the re-emergence of the monster flick.

A. Through Rick Baker’s hardwork and achievements, he has become a prolific figure in the movie industry. He is responsible for 6 Academy Awards and a Life Time Achievement Award as well.

B. Rick Baker is a figure who is responsible for the movie industry becoming what it is today in terms of visual effects and technology. He fully embraces new technology and still works to this day. He influenced artist then, and still continues to influence artist today.
